How should I Lose My Belly Fat?

I am 13 years old and the only fatty area on my whole body is my belly. I am willing to go on a diet (yeah, stop eating McDonald’s), AND I’m willing to excersise, like running, sit-ups, and stuff.

I’m just wondering what kind of diet I should go on and what excersises to do. And also, how long should this take?

Yes lay off the junk food, but you also need to encorporate exercise. And not just sit-ups! Those people who say just sit-ups will help are stupid and misinformed. You can do all the sit-ups in the world and you’ll have the best abs ever…..but if they are under a layer of belly fat, it won’t do you any good. Belly fat is the hardest fat to get rid of. You need to do cardio exercise that gets your heart rate going – like running, biking, aerobics, dancing, etc. Once your heart rate goes up, you’ll start burning fat and calories. When you start doing that, your body fat will slowly disappear. Yes you should do sit ups (and look in SELF and SHAPE and other fitness magazines for a variety on how to do them and to target certain sections), but make sure you’re exercising (and thus, burning fat) at the same time.

In terms of food, avoid excess SALT. Salt/Sodium has been known to be the leading source of Stubborn Belly Fat. Avoid lots and lots of microwave meals (the sodium rate is SO high) and avoid putting salt on any of your foods. There are also products out there that are like fake salt…which taste similar but without the bad side effects.

If you do this now and keep it up, you’ll be helping yourself when you get to your high school years and your metabolism will be higher because you exercise. After a couple weeks, you’ll notice a small change and a few weeks later you’ll notice a little more and so on. You can also weigh yourself (just keep it once a week though…don’t become one of those girls obsessed with their weight) and see how much weight you are losing.
